LG and Garrett come together for better cybersecurity
Autonomous Vehicle Technology announces 2019 ACES Award Winner in Connectivity | Cybersecurity
In a significant tie-up between two major automotive suppliers, Garrett Motion Inc., formerly a part of Honeywell, and LG Electronics Inc. have joined to develop and demonstrate an automotive software technology and infrastructure solution to address security threats associated with increased vehicle connectivity. There are more than a dozen and growing clearly defined attack surfaces that can provide points of entry for hacking into a passenger vehicle.
By integrating Garrett’s security software with LGE’s security solutions, the joint effort is expected to offer a next-generation cybersecurity solution that protects vehicles from external and internal networks as well as the ECU (electronic control unit)/TCU (telematics control unit) system and application layers. It will combine LG’s intrusion, detection, and protection software (IDPS) technology for securing vehicle hardware from external attacks with Honeywell’s IDPS solutions for securing internal vehicle communication and control networks along with its security monitoring and analytics capabilities for security operation centers.
The collaborative solution’s goal is to ensure passenger vehicle safety and security by identifying and validating software commands and data generated. LG’s electrical gateways and security modules, TCU, and ECU can be used for detecting and reporting anomalies preceding a mechanical failure or intentional hack of the vehicle.
