Marposs announces helium leak testing solutions for EV battery systems
Marposs announced the availability of its HeTech helium technology nondestructive leak testing machines for battery systems used in electric vehicles. These machines help identify the presence of leaks in cooling tubes, hoses, and plates; prismatic battery cells and modules; as well as battery pack assemblies. These systems enable parts to be checked for defects without being transferred to a measurement lab, eliminating the need to reload and reposition the part for any necessary reworking, improving the process and optimizing cycle time.
Using helium-charged vacuum technology, the part is placed into a chamber where a vacuum is created. The part is then pressurized with helium, and any leakage is measured through a mass spectrometer. These helium-charged systems feature two vacuum chambers with manual opening and closing. The chambers alternate so that while one chamber is closed and running the test cycle, the other chamber is open for loading/unloading.
The machine is designed to inspect complete cells prior to electrolyte filling and sealing. Detectable leaks range from 5.0 x 10-3 mbar*L/s to 5.0 x 10-8 mbar*L/s.
The systems feature a touchscreen color monitor HMI with two remote control boxes containing push buttons and light sensors for the operators. The equipment has separate outlet ports for helium and air discharge, and can be connected to a helium recovery system.
Marposs also offers an automated sniffing test system that uses helium as a tracer to check the sealing on battery pack assemblies, identifying the origin of the leak to verify the IP67-68 compliance.
