In the continuing effort to build upon an already growing reputation for leading edge electric vehicles (EVs), Kia Motors America unveiled its vision of the future of electric vehicles at the 2019 New York International Auto Show in April. The HabaNiro, a play on the name of its Niro production vehicle, is a pure-electric, all-wheel-drive, four-seat concept car. Notable differences from Kia’s current fleet include a claimed level-five autonomous mode and butterfly wing doors. However, Kia claims it is a realistic look into the future of mobility.
The HabaNiro is a compact crossover utility vehicle designed to combine elements of commuter, crossover, sport utility, and adventure vehicles with high-technology office functionality. The concept is 4430 mm (174.4 in) long, 1600 mm (63.0 in) tall, 1955 mm (77.0 in) wide on a 2830 mm (111.4-in) wheelbase. It is bigger than the production Niro, which measures 4355 mm (171.5 in) long, 1535 mm (60.4 in) tall, and 1805 mm (71.1 in) wide, on a 2700-mm (106.3-in) wheelbase. Notable design elements include a protective metallic grey cladding around the front wheels extending along the body sides and a bright red aero panel that extends from C-pillar over the roof.
