Innovusion Inc. says its recently announced Cheetah LiDAR system is the industry’s first image-grade, high-performance, polygon-based solution robust enough for the demanding requirements of the automotive industry. The innovative rotating polygon optical architecture combined with proprietary detector electronics, advanced optics, and sophisticated software algorithms offers one of the longest-distance, highest-resolution LiDAR vehicle to the mobility industry. The result is a claimed detection range of 200 m (660 ft) on objects with 10% reflectivity, and clear detecting of objects out to 280 m (920 ft). Key specifications include a screen resolution of 300 vertical pixels, while simultaneously maintaining a frame rate of 10 Hz. Picture-like resolution is achieved with a 0.13-degree resolution over its 40-degree vertical FOV (field-of-view) and 0.14-degree resolution over a 100-degree horizontal FOV. Because of the efficient rotating polygon architecture, it draws under 40 W, which is claimed to be the most energy efficient of any high-performance LiDAR currently available. The platform has sensor-head dimensions are 112 mm high x 145 mm wide x 105 mm deep, with a roadmap to substantially reduce the future footprint and form factor. The system’s picture-like imaging, due to its high number of vertical and horizontal scanning line, form an exceptionally dense point cloud suitable for fusing with camera data at the pixel level. Based on its superior performance enabled by the innovative rotating polygon approach, unique detector electronics and proprietary algorithms, the Cheetah platform is ideal for safety system architects as the main perception sensor for L3+ autonomous vehicles, thus reducing the need for multiple LiDAR systems. The single unit price is $35,000 for small quantities.
